Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
Romans 11:33
Yesterday, I posted my Life Song, Blessed Assurance, and how I long to live my life according to its principles. To be someone who, no matter life’s circumstances, still praises the Savior. In today’s post, I share my Life Verse and the reasons why.
Romans 11:33 is a gem of a verse, tucked away in a chapter dealing with the issue of how God has not given up on His people, Israel. Its emphasis on the nation of Israel is what drew me to finding my Life Verse; I love God’s chosen people. I am happy that one day their spiritual blindness will end, and they will recognize Jesus as Messiah. Out of my love for them, I have always loved this chapter with its special promises for Israel.
Verse 33, though, almost seems out-of-place within the context. It reminds us that even though God has every right to give up on a people who rejected their Messiah, He does not. The reason is His love, which like all other of His attributes are past finding out. However, the verse seems to take a different turn, from talking about corporate Israel to focusing on the majesty of God, and breathtakingly so.
When I read it, I have always pictured this passage as a description of God’s Word itself. I think of how the Bible is fresh and new every day. No matter how many times I have studied even a single verse, and think that I have exhausted my understanding of it, the Holy Spirit will illuminate it even further, and often quite unexpectedly.
I chose the photo above, as the closest representation of what the verse means to me. When I open Scripture, and meditate upon its precepts, it as if I stand next to the edge of a precipice, overlooking a beautiful landscape below but whose bottom I cannot see. I look into His Word, and find no end in fully comprehending; I find no closure to what I have yet to learn. The riches of God’s Word are truly amazing and unsearchable. The depth is inexhaustible, the truths undeniable.
More than any other, I selected this one as my Life Verse because it reflects my awe of God, and the breathtaking grandeur of His glory. The only problem with the photo is that the cliff is not nearly high enough, for there is no way to portray with completeness the depth of the wondrous riches of both the wisdom and knowledge of God.

John 3:16; “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” This one of my life verse. 🙂 this scripture describe us how great God loves us and later his only begotten son would be nailed at the cross for our sins.

Amen to your verse. I think Ephesians 2:7 is my favorite, and goes along with yours: “that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” Granted, this breaks into Paul’s thought and is the conclusion of what starts in v. 4. Still, it shows us that God’s ways and words are inexhaustible. There’s another verse in Job that echoes these thoughts. After listing some of God’s works in creation and providence, Job says, “Indeed these are the mere edges of His ways, and how small a whisper we hear of Him! But the thunder of His power who can understand?”

Mine has to be Psalm 27:4, “One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.” It’s a verse that The Lord takes me to over and over again.

December 1993 I was reading a devotional and this verse just jumped off the page at me. “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me into his service.” I Timothy 1:12 NIV. I had only known the LORD for a couple of years and was still a babe in Christ; but He was beginning to use me in ways I could’t believe. Nothing I do is of my own strength but of what He provides to me. Thank you for blessing me today.
