A Shocker to Everyone ~ In a Good Way!

For those of you who have followed the updates about my surgery, then found out from my last post about my husband’s health issues, I need to let you know of the good news about him.

He underwent surgery last week to remove his spleen, due to severe enlargement.  Because his overall health had declined significantly over the past couple of months, he was not an ideal surgical candidate.  The doctors had prepared me for the possibility that he might not do well during surgery.  They also concluded that Jim likely had some form of cancer, even though they were hopeful it was benign or treatable.

They were wrong about the cancer diagnosis, and he did great during the surgery!

The night before his surgery, I asked God that since He was really the only One who knew what was wrong with my husband’s health, if it was not a cancer diagnosis to shock everyone involved in his care ~ in a good way.  To surprise them with what they found out was the cause of his illness.

Praise God, He did just that!  The pathology report stunned every doctor, when it revealed that Jim did not have cancer, but had instead contracted a curable type of fungal infection of his spleen and possibly two other organs.  The likely cause is simply the exposure that comes from living in a humid climate, which is filled with fungal spores everywhere in the soil.  The main reason they were shocked is that few people ever get sick from this and in this way.

Jim is very frail and remains hospitalized, but is recovering well and expected to make a complete recovery.  He still needs prayer, though, since the anti-fungal medicines could take months to totally eradicate this from his system.

But, as has been the case with every step of this huge bend in the road with Jim’s health, God has the final say.  He may decide to shock the doctors again with a sudden healing, sooner than anyone expects!

God is able!  Until then, we rejoice knowing He remains faithful and that He continues to work all things together for our good.  Our God is so very good!

Blessings to each of you,  We both appreciate all the support and prayers!

Sue

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
Romans 8:28

    Sue:
Praise God! \o/ This morning I heard the most wonderful song, an old timey’ but it seems to be the theme in many blogs I’m reading, so I leave you with the chorus:

    “When Jesus comes, the tempter’s power is broken;
When Jesus comes, the tears are wiped away,
He takes the gloom and fills the life with glory,
For all is changed when Jesus comes to stay.”

    Peace ~Zoey

I don’t think I’ve ever heard that one Zoey. What timely words of encouraging for us! All it takes is for Jeaus to show up in a situation, and everything changes. Amen and thanks!

Sis Sue, been taking today to make the rounds of the sites that I appreciate and love and was surprised to see that your hubby had undergone this procedure. But— am so encouraged and truly do Glorify and Magnify our Supreme Healer that He never lets us down! I will pray for him and you to add my voice to so many other Brothers and Sisters who share their love for you and your ministry.
I just quoted Romans 8:28 to someone else who is going through some things, just a bit ago in the comments as it has been a rock in the scriptures to which I have clung to for a long, long time. Many people forget that the key to that scripture is ALL THINGS, not just the things we like, but things that can be a hardship as well. I praise God for such a great praise report and look forward to more as your husbands strength returns.
Another Scripture that I am sure is not new to you that you might pass along to him is Nehemiah 8:10b, “Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Remember, it is not OUR joy in the Lord that gives us strength but rather HIS JOY! It is the Lord’s joy in each of us that strengthens, blesses us and keeps us following after Him! That Fruit of the Spirit we call Joy, is very powerful indeed as evidenced by the Prophet Nehemiah!
I’m going to read some more, Sis, but until the next time I get around, keep up the good fight in the Lord and bless you and yours exceedingly and oh so very richly and Sis, may you and yours, prosper as your souls also prosper! Again, God Bless!!

Roland. Thank you for your thoughtful and very encouraging comments. I love both the verses. I have relied on Romans 8:28 countless times during this awful ordeal. God is very clearly using this trial of Jim’s to do a good work in many areas of his life, mine and others. I’m so proud of how Jim’s faith has remained steadfast. It has been a blessing and testimony in the lives of so many. Thanks again and I will try to update everyone as often as I can. Until then, thanks for the prayers and words of encouragement.
