Eerie is the current theme for the Weekly Photo Challenge. Since I am not a fan of anything spooky or creepy, I was not going to take part this week. However, I couldn’t resist posting this picture I took of the Vicksburg bridge, while on a photo trek Saturday with my brother Chuck. It has a rather eerie look, but in a good way.
Chuck is one of three brothers and they all enjoy photography as much as I do. I will be the first to admit, though, that my skill level is not on par with any of them, especially Chuck. Even though not a professional, he is nevertheless a wellspring of photography knowledge.
Imagine then how delighted I was to have my own private photo instructor for a trip to capture sunset shots along the mighty Mississippi.
I chose the picture above as my entry in the challenge, but also posted one that Chuck did. For this shot, we got in a little closer to the bridge, and by then the pretty colors in the sky were gone. However, I love the clarity and composition in his photo below. Notice how he showed the concrete supports coming together at the vantage point with the lighted bridge.
With pointers from Chuck, and the use of a tripod, I got the eerie look by using a 30-second exposure. We could near about go run an errand, and then come back before the shot finished! The intentionally blurred streaks of light are from the cars zooming over the bridge.
Other than learning much, it was just enjoyable spending quality time with my bro. As adults, we get so busy and tend to neglect family and friends.
The pictures fit the ‘eerie’ qualification, but there was nothing spooky about our trip to Vicksburg. God blessed us with a remarkable evening together, one that I will not forget.

Wow, fantastic photos! 🙂
Thanks Steve. I appreciate your feedback.
🙂
Cool bridge!
Thanks Deborah Ann. It’s made of steel girders, I believe, but I love how the long exposure almost made it
look wooden. 🙂
gREAT PICTURES.
Thanks, dear.
Wonderful images! What a blessing to go on a photo safari with someone you love, who could give you pointers. The blurry movement in the clouds lends to that eerie mood as well. 🙂
Thanks Rene. Was a perfect evening being with my sweet brother. But I didn’t make him homemade pretzels! 😊
LOL 😀 You’re still a sweet sister!

Beautiful photos, and how wonderful to get to spend time with a brother! Our brothers may have been separated at birth as well. Our middle brother, though not a professional, is a great photographer. When I got my first Pentax, I was taking pictures of the kids, and he was standing beside me. I remember he put his hand on my shoulder and pressed me down to their level. Instantly better shots! Thanks for sharing the sharing! Sophie
Thanks. Keep up the picture taking!
Loved these pictures. Really nice
Thanks so much!
That is a very strange looking bridge. Yay Chuck for sharing some great tips.
It’s actually just a steel bridge but it was the exposure technique that made it look eerie. Was fun. Thanks!
